Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Islam Makhachev approached the head of the promotion, Dana White, on his social networks with a request to find him a new opponent.
“Dana White, I’m hungry. Feed me someone,” Makhachev wrote.
In October 2022, Makhachev defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira to win the lightweight title.
On February 12, 2023, Makhachev defeated Alex Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds at UFC-284. This was the Russian’s first title defence.
On October 21, 2023, Makhachev scored an early victory over Australian Alex Volkanovski in the main fight of the evening at the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi. The Russian player defeated his opponent by knockout in the first round and defended his title for the second time. For the fight, Makhachev received the “best performance of the night” bonus.
He now has 25 wins in 26 fights. Makhachev was recognized as the best UFC fighter regardless of weight category.
