Russian gymnasts lose their chance to qualify for the 2024 Olympics

Russian gymnasts will not participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This became known after domestic athletes missed the World Cup stage, which started on March 7 in Baku (Azerbaijan).

In artistic gymnastics, Olympic ticket holders are determined by the best results in three of the four World Cup stages. The Russians missed the World Cup stages in February in Cairo (Egypt) and Cottbus (Germany). They are also absent among the election participants in Baku.

Therefore, Russian gymnasts will not receive enough points to qualify for the 2024 Games. The final qualifying stage of the World Cup will take place in Doha (Qatar) from 17 to 20 April.

On March 4, 2022, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to ban Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices due to the situation in Ukraine. As of January 1, 2024, the restrictions expire.

On December 8, 2023, the International Olympic Committee allowed athletes from Russia to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games with neutral status.
