The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) published the grounds for its decision regarding the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) against the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend membership in the international organization. The document is available at: Web site CAS.

The IOC suspended the PRC in October 2023 due to the inclusion of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in the Olympic councils. The appeal was registered on November 6, the Russian Olympic Committee demanded the annulment of the IOC decision and the restoration of full membership in the organization. CAS heard the PRC’s objection on January 26.

On 23 February, CAS rejected the appeal, saying that the International Olympic Committee’s executive committee “did not violate the principles of legality, equity, estimability or proportionality”. The PRC said the CAS decision to reject the appeal showed “civil and sporting discrimination on an unprecedented scale” against Russians ahead of the 2024 Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee allowed athletes from Russia to participate in the 2024 Olympics. However, athletes must participate in neutral status subject to certain conditions.

The Paris Olympics will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.

Previously Lavrov accused IOC President for betraying the ideals of Olympism.
