Former Russian national team midfielder Denis Glushakov admitted that Cherchesov’s boss had decided to remove him from the national team before the 2018 World Cup. His words are quoted “Bookmaker rating”.
“Before the start of the World Cup, I was appointed vice-captain of the team, but you understand that Cherchesov was not looking for me in vain. He was asked not to call me because there were behind-the-scenes games regarding my contract at Spartak.
He had to do whatever they told him to do. He had a boss who told me not to call me, so he took me off the team,” Glushakov said.
Glushakov was called up to the Russian national team from 2011 to 2018. In total, the midfielder played 57 matches for the national team.
The midfielder played for Spartak Moscow from 2013 to 2019. He won the Russian Premier League (RPL) with the red and white team in the 2016/17 season. He left the club after his contract was terminated.
Glushakov currently plays for Urartu in Armenia, to whom he will be transferred in the winter of 2024.
