Russia’s second racket, Andrey Rublev, reached the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tennis tournament held in Dubai.
In the quarter-final match, the Russian faced American Sebastian Korda. In the second set, with Rublev’s scores of 6:4 and 4:3, Korda refused to continue the match. The opponents remained on the field for 1 hour and 8 minutes. Rublev won all four matches in his career against Korda.
Rublev, who ranks fifth in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, will fight with the seventh racket of the tournament, Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan, to reach the final.
The prize money for the tournament in the UAE exceeds $2.9 million. The competition will end on March 2. The current champion is Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who beat Rublev in the final.
Russian tennis players compete as neutral athletes in international tournaments. By the decision of Great Britain, they missed the Wimbledon tournament, the only Grand Slam tournament in 2022.
