President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) Vladimir Salnikov said that the European Aquatics Federation (European Aquatics) proposes to hold the European Championships in Russia in 2028. His words are quoted RIA News.
“European Aquatics suggested that the 2028 European Championships be held in Kazan. Their recommendations are currently being evaluated. I cannot say yet when exactly the venue for the tournament will be confirmed,” Salnikov said.
In 2024, the European Aquatics Championship was planned to be held in Kazan, but was postponed to Belgrade (Serbia) due to the situation in Ukraine.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
At the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on March 28, it was proposed to allow the Russians to maintain neutral status if their athletes do not take an active part in supporting military operations.
