Russian New York Rangers forward Artemy Panarin has surpassed former Chicago Blackhawks forward Alexei Zhamnov, head coach of the Russian national team, in the number of goals in the National Hockey League (NHL).
On the night of February 26, Panarin scored a goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 15th minute of the first period in the NHL regular season game, making the score 1:1. His assistant was Adam Fox. It was his 33rd goal this regular season.
In total, the Russian forward scored 249 goals in the NHL. Zhamnov scored the same number of points throughout his career.
Panarin has been playing in the National Hockey League since 2015. He signed a seven-year contract with the Rangers in July 2019 that was supposed to net him $81.5 million. He also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets.
