Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya could not win the WTA-1000 tournament held in Dubai (UAE).

She lost to Yasmina Paolini in the final. The match, which lasted 2 hours and 13 minutes, ended 6:4, 5:7, 5:7 in favor of the Italians.

25-year-old Kalinskaya played in the final of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament for the first time in her career. This week she beat the world’s number one and number three rackets (Poland Iga Swiatek and American Cori Gauff).

The tournament in Dubai belongs to the WTA-1000 category, with only the Grand Slam events and the WTA Final Tournament being ranked higher. The winner will receive $523.4 thousand in prize money and 1000 rating points, while the finalist will receive $308.3 thousand and 650 points.

Elena Dementieva (2008) won the WTA-1000 tournament among Russian women in singles.

In the updated WTA rankings, Kalinskaya ranks 40th with 1323 points. She had 13 wins and 4 losses in singles this season.

Russian tennis players compete as neutral athletes in international tournaments. They just missed Wimbledon 2022.
