Olympic silver and bronze medalist bobsledder Alexey Voevoda spoke about the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) against Russian athletes. INSIDE report He told socialbites.ca that the attitude towards Russians is contrary to Olympic principles and constitutes sports genocide.
“The Olympics in its original form ended completely after 2014. Rights violations against athletes have begun in every field, this cannot be done. After all, they have the right to work, they have the right to realize themselves – but nothing remains of the Olympic principles. They added the word “together” to the Olympic motto, but they themselves trampled this concept long ago.
WADA is burning data on doping tests of Americans or Canadians. The bias of these organizations is unthinkable. We always performed in conditions where they put spokes on our wheels. We are used to this, but now it is unprecedented in history: They are pressuring out of the blue. If we are talking about performing at the Olympics without a flag or anthem, everyone should be in that situation!
Let it be a non-political event where everyone performs under the IOC flag, where athletes from Russia, from America, from all countries perform. Everyone will represent their country, but not the national team, and then the result will be the standard, not how the country looks in competitions. Then Olympic principles will be respected. And if everyone is allowed but we are not, this is a violation of rights in its purest form, sports genocide,” says Voevoda.
On October 2, 2023, the IOC announced the suspension of the PRC until further notice, following the inclusion of the Olympic Councils of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in the Russian organization.
On February 28, 2022, the IOC appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Since then they have only participated in local tournaments.
