Skate Canada has put the issue on the preliminary agenda of the International Skating Union (ISU) Congress to be held June 10-14 in Las Vegas.
“This initiative will allow our athletes to compete not only for Canada, but also for other countries. Let them submit their proposal to the ISU. This is their right and it is no one’s business whether our skaters change their sports citizenship. Yes, it is another attack, but I will not react to it in any way.
We must wait for the competition to come back to us, not get distracted. Nobody takes our opinion into consideration! And there is nothing good in this. Our own athletes are not enough, they will use foreigners. It was like that, it is like that now!” – said Tarasova.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
Thus, the International Skating Union suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. Although the issue of the return of Russian athletes was brought up at the ISU meeting held in October, it was not brought to the agenda.
