More than 400 doping cases against Russian athletes were closed without any charges in 2023 RIA News With reference to ARD and a confidential report of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
According to the Moscow laboratory database, 834 possible violations of anti-doping legislation were detected, of which 409 were closed early due to lack of results. Investigation into 145 incidents continues.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found figure skater Kamila Valieva guilty of doping and disqualified the athlete. He will not be able to compete in tournaments until December 2025.
On February 7, CAS published its reasoning. The Russian side claimed that the banned substance entered Valieva’s body as a result of eating the dessert prepared by her grandfather. The medicine she used during the cooking process could contaminate her food.
