Three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov won the skiathlon at the Strongest Spartakiad in Tyumen.

Bolshunov covered the distance of 20 kilometers in 52 minutes 30.7 seconds. Ilya Semikov (+1.5) came in second, while Artem Maltsev (+3.9) ranked in the top three. This is Bolshunov’s 19th consecutive victory.

Russian skiers will compete in the “Spartakiad of the Strongest” from February 9 to 18. The tournament is held in five regions of Russia: Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk regions.

Bolshunov won the World Cup twice and won the Tour de Ski. At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, the Russian won five medals, including three gold. He was the flag bearer of the Russian team at the closing ceremony of the games.

In the spring of 2022, the International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to suspend Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions until the end of the season. On October 22, this decision was extended for the 2022/23 season.
