Former world number two among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova, in a conversation with socialbites.ca, shared her impressions of 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva’s performance at the Australian Open 2024.

The Russian athlete advanced to the fourth round of the tournament and lost to world number 11 Barbora Krejcikova in three sets (6:4, 3:6, 2:6).

“To be honest, I expected Mirra to win this match because the Czech tennis player was clearly out of shape or worried about injury,” Pivovarova said. “Krejcikova’s performance in this tournament was far from her best. She played a completely different tennis against Mirra. I went to the net and even there I made mistakes on simple balls and made many unforced errors.

Mirra should definitely have won this match. But apparently he was tired because his play was inconsistent. However, I think he missed a great chance. Mirra was probably not yet morally ready to move past this stage.”

16-year-old Andreeva is ranked 35th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. Her best result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the fourth round at the 2024 Australian Open and 2023 Wimbledon.

Previously, the most successful Russian woman of the Australian Open was called. Don’t expect “high results”.
