Olympic champion in ice dancing Tatyana Navka congratulated Roman Kostomarov on his Telegram channel.
“You won the most important fight of your life. You became a new example of the strength of the spirit, will and desire to live. Be happy, healthy, energetic, strong both physically and spiritually,” Navka wrote.
On December 17, Kostomarov took part in the show “Together and Forever” by choreographer Ilya Averbukh, going out on ice on skates. The figure skater appeared at the end of his wife Domnina’s exhibition routine with Maxim Shabalin and performed an excerpt from “Carmen”, the free program with which he and his former partner Tatyana Navka won the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin.
At the beginning of January 2023, the skater was hospitalized. He was in intensive care with pneumonia and was put on a ventilator. The athlete was transported to a hospital in Kommunarka, resuscitated and connected to an artificial blood oxygen saturation device (ECMO), after which he remained on a ventilator for a long time. Parts of his arms and legs were amputated.
