Swedish Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman spoke about the scary injury the team suffered to Russian defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. His words are quoted official league website.
“It’s incredibly difficult. I’ve seen this with other players in the past, but it’s hard to see him get injured in his first game after being away from the field for a long time. We feel sorry for him and we just pray for him, but obviously nothing good is happening here,” Hedman said.
On February 8, during a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game against the New York Rangers, Sergachev collided with opposing player Alexi Lafreniere. The Russian could only get off the ice on a stretcher.
It is worth noting that Sergachev has not been on the ice since December 20, 2023. He missed 17 games due to injury.
Sergachev has been playing in Tampa since 2017. During that time, he lifted the Stanley Cup over his head twice (2020, 2021).
Last NHL season, the Russian played in 79 regular season games and scored 10 goals and 54 assists. In the playoffs, the defender played six matches (1+2), his team was eliminated by losing to Toronto in the 1/8 finals.
