Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko in an interview TASS He stated that the country would not qualify to host the Olympic Games in the near future due to widespread anti-Russian sentiment around the world.
According to him, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is not fighting against Russophobia in any way, so the modern Olympics have lost their sports component.
“The Olympic movement has now caught the virus of Russophobia and has lost its core values. The spirit of competition in the Olympics has disappeared. We hope that the IOC will change its policy and after some time cooperation will be established,” Chernyshenko said.
The IOC allowed Russia to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games with neutral status. The organization said Russian athletes will be required to sign updated terms of participation, which include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”. Russian athletes who rank well in their disciplines will be allowed to compete.
