Dutch De Telegraaf journalist Jeroen Kapteins said that Twente board member John Birling left his post in protest after the agreement made with Spartak regarding Ugalda. His words are quoted “Sports Express”.

“Yes, it is true, but this person would have left his job in a few months anyway. So he left the club a little earlier. It was a form of protest, but it’s much easier to do when you’ve already made the decision to resign from your position. This person was afraid that the Ugalde transfer would negatively affect his career,” said Kapteins.

Manfred Ugalde moved to Spartak in January 2024 for €13 million + €2 million bonus.

The striker, who played 25 matches in all competitions for Twente this season, recorded 9 goals and 7 assists in these matches.

Krasnodar entered the winter break as the leader in the Russian Premier League (RPL) with 38 points. Spartak is in fifth place with 30 points. The second leg of the championship starts in March. The Muscovites defeated Zenit St. Petersburg in the 19th round. It will play away against St. Petersburg.

Previously Ugalde predicted difficulties due to inflated transfer amount.
