Dmitry Vasiliev, two-time Olympic champion in biathlon, cannot imagine how coach Eteri Tutberidze could not know who and how provided the protection of figure skater Kamila Valieva in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He shared his opinion with him “Match TV”.
“I can’t imagine how Tutberidze didn’t know who was protecting Valieva and how. Moreover, this is an event that resonates very much. In this case, Camila had to be given the most qualified defense. Since Tutberidze said this, identified this problem, it seems that they did not really take seriously the protection in the CAS,” Vasiliev said.
The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to impose a four-year ban on the athlete, starting from December 2021, was announced on January 29.
As part of the Russian national team at the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva took first place in the team tournament and fourth in the individual championship. After his disqualification, the International Skating Union (ISU) awarded the Russians third place, without depriving Russia of medals overall. Gold went to the US team and silver went to the Japanese team.
On January 31, Tutberidze questioned the competence of the lawyers representing Valieva’s interests at CAS.
Previously Tarasova answered Call to respect Valieva’s disqualification.
