2003 US Open champion and former world number one Andy Roddick criticized those who underestimated Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev.

“He is one of the most underrated players ever. And I am prepared to throw myself to the wolves in a dispute about that.

He is always better than me. He has more than 20 ATP titles. He won several Masters tournaments, won a Finals Championship, was the first racquet in the world, and along the way beat Novak Djokovic in the final of the Grand Slam tournament. And he created himself. This guy is the best,” Roddick said on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

On January 28, Medvedev lost the Australian Open final to Italian representative Jannik Sinner in five sets, leading with a score of 0:2 after the first two. This was the third defeat of a Russian tennis player in the Australian Open final.

In 2023, Medvedev managed to win the tournament in Rome by defeating Dane Holger Rune; A tournament in Miami (the opponent in the final is the Italian Jannik Sinner), a tournament in Dubai (the opponent in the final is his compatriot Andrey Rublev), a tournament in Doha (the opponent in the final is the Englishman Andy Murray) and a tournament in Rotterdam (the opponent in the final is the Italian Jannik Sinner).
