SKA hockey head coach Roman Rotenberg described the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva as a politicized decision. His words are quoted official website of the club.
“We cannot influence politics. A politicized decision is one hundred percent. But I looked at the clock. They gave me a four-year disqualification, but from 2021. Accordingly, there is a little more than a year left. There is no need to dramatize this situation as it is. We must continue to work and not lose courage . This is our way. This is a challenge,” Rotenberg said.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules.
On December 25, 2021, the banned substance trimetazidine was found in the sample taken from the athlete at the Russian Championship. This did not prevent the athlete from competing at the Olympic Games in Beijing, where he won the gold medal in the team tournament.
During this time, Valieva also managed to win the 2022 European Championships. Now the gold medal will go to another Russian skater Anna Shcherbakova.
