The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its decision in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva on January 29 at around 17:00 Moscow time. This was reported by RIA News.
“The decision regarding Kamila Valieva, the International Olympic Committee, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency will be published today around 15:00 Central European Time,” a CAS representative was quoted as saying.
Valieva finished third at the Russian Championships in December 2023. Another student of Eteri Tutberidze, Adelia Petrosyan, won. Second place was taken by Sofya Muravyova (student of Evgeni Plushenko).
Valieva became the winner of the Russian Championship in 2021. A banned substance was later found in his blood. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) decided to cancel the figure skater’s result at the national championships. This did not prevent the athlete from competing at the Olympic Games in Beijing, where he won the gold medal in the team tournament. If the athlete’s guilt is proven at CAS, he will face disqualification.
