Roman Teryushkov, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, believes that tennis player Daniil Medvedev renounced the Russian flag. His words are quoted “Sports every day”.
“Of course, I am happy about the defeat of the athlete who gave up the Russian flag. Daniil Medvedev has a chance to regain the favor of the Russians at any moment. All that is needed for this is to return the Russian flag to where it was shyly raised and publicly support Vladimir Putin’s actions to protect the Russian population in Ukraine from genocide,” Teryushkov said.
Medvedev, like all Russian tennis players, competes in international tournaments as a neutral athlete. The Russian flag image in the statement was removed from the social network.
On January 28, Medvedev lost to Italian representative Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final in five sets, leading with a score of 0:2 after the first two.
This was the third defeat of a Russian tennis player in the Australian Open final. Medvedev lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in 2021 and to Spanish Rafael Nadal in 2022.
Medvedev won the Grand Slam tournament only once in his career. Won the US Open in 2021.
Previously Medvedev’s first coach stated About failures in the Australian Open finals.
