Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev talked about how he felt about the nickname “octopus” he received from Andrei Rublev.

“Good. It was Andrey who came up with this nickname for me. At first I didn’t like it very much, but then it became more and more fun, my friends started buying octopus toys for my daughter.

My last name means “bear” in Russian. I liked this better. “But if they call me ‘octopus’, it’s okay,” Medvedev said after the match.

On January 26, Medvedev defeated German representative Alexander Zverev in the Australian Open semi-finals with scores of 5:7, 3:6, 7:6, 7:6, 6:3.

In the final of the tournament, Medvedev will face Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who easily beat world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. The Serbian athlete became the last winner of the tournament. He beat Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in last year’s final.

Andrey Rublev ended his performance at the Australian Open by losing to Sinner in three sets in the quarter-finals.
