Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev’s coach, Gilles Cervara, explained at the press conference how the player managed to change the course of the match with German athlete Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. His words guide the way Sports24.
“I didn’t understand how he was able to do that (turn the situation to his advantage) in the second set. And then it seemed to me, like I don’t remember who I played with, like okay, I’m going to sit on the plane the next day. I think that helped him relax and get into a better rhythm with his serve and got a lot better,” Cervara said.
The semi-final match ended in favor of Medvedev with scores of 5:7, 3:6, 7:6 (4), 7:6 (5), 6:3. The Russian tennis player, who lost 0-2 in the sets in the match against Zverev, played 14 consecutive serves, made 6 double faults, won 60% of the balls in the first serve and converted 3 of 14 serves into break points.
In the Australian Open final, Medvedev will face Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who knocked out multiple Grand Slam champion Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. The match will start on January 28 at around 11:30 Moscow time.
