The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its decision regarding the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva on January 29, 2024. USA Today journalist Christine Brennan reported this on the social network page X.
A scandal broke out around Valieva at the 2022 Winter Olympics. The day after the Russian team won the team tournament with Valieva, it was learned that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the doping test of student Eteri Tutberidze. Due to the investigation, the award ceremony was postponed and no medals were awarded in the tournament.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport held an on-site meeting and then allowed Valieva to participate in the individual tournament, with the condition that the award ceremony would not take place if the skater won a medal. Valieva took the lead after the short program, but made a number of serious mistakes in the free skate, which ultimately allowed her to take fourth place.
The first hearings of the Valieva case at CAS took place first in September and then in November.
