The semi-final match between Italian Jannik Sinner and Serbian Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open was interrupted due to health problems of the spectators.

The match was interrupted in the third set with the scores 6:1, 6:2, 5:5 (40:40 on Djokovic’s serve) in favor of Sinner.

Djokovic lost by two sets for the fourth time in Australian Open history. He found himself in a similar situation in matches with Russian Marat Safin (2005), Switzerland’s Roger Federer (2007) and Chung Hyun (South Korea).

In the other semi-final, Russian Daniil Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev will take part.

Djokovic continues to lead the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings (11,055 points). Spanish Carlos Alcaraz ranks second with 8855 points. Medvedev is in the top three (7555 points). Zverev is in sixth place (4275 points).

Russian tennis players continue to participate in international tournaments as neutral athletes. The only tournament they missed was Wimbledon in 2022. Sanctions were imposed because the organizers did not allow Russian tennis players to participate in the tournament.
