Activists from French union centers used the music of the anthem of the Soviet Union during a rally at Paris City Hall against the organizers of the 2024 Olympic Games. A video of the demonstration was published on the social network by city councilor X Orellan Veron.
The reason for the protest was the organizers’ intention to deprive municipal employees of 10 days of leave to work outside working hours during the Olympics.
The Labor Union (FO) and France’s leading union, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), demanded higher wages, a one-off bonus payment for work during the Games in December, and improved working conditions.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had previously announced six quotas of Russians who will compete in the 2024 Games. The organization said Russian athletes will be required to sign updated terms of participation, which include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”. Russian athletes who rank well in their own disciplines will be allowed to compete.
The Summer Olympics will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
