Former world number two among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova shared her expectations from Anna Kalinskaya’s match against Chinese Zheng Qingwen in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. In a statement to socialbites.ca, Pivovarova listed the strengths of the Chinese athlete and explained what kind of tennis will be played against him.

“Chinese women are very motivated and aim to get to the top. He has a good game, he has sharp shots, he plays for long periods of time, he spreads out and can pick things up. I would play more variable tennis against her because Chinese women like to play from one point. When the rhythm starts to change, the playing patterns are disrupted. But I’m not sure that Kalinskaya can offer such tennis – use shortened ones, play oblique shots with transfers along the line. “The Chinese will be the favorites in this match,” thinks Pivovarova.

Kalinskaya was the only Russian woman to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open tour. She defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round, 6: 4, 6: 2.
