Former world number two Anastasia Pivovarova evaluated Andrey Rublev’s victory against Australian Alex de Minaur in the fourth round of the Australian Open and shared her expectations from Rublev’s match with Italian Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals. In his statement to socialbites.ca, he evaluated the Russian player’s mood positively and expressed the opinion that he would have nothing to lose in the next match.
“I am very pleased with Rublev’s performance against de Minaur. He fought until the end, did everything that depended on him, served the aces at the right time, used his serve. I really like his attitude in this tournament.
He plays against Sinner in the “deadly” circle as he fights for a place in the semi-finals – I’ve lost count of how many moments he’s had like this. I think it’s in his best interest. Sinankar is the favorite in this match and Rublev also joked that his opponent “will have problems” by listing his successes last year and how he improved.
This will only comfort Andrey because no one expects him to defeat Sinner and he will definitely do it. This situation will not put pressure on him as he will be playing against a very strong opponent. Sinner is one of the players who can win the Australian Open. Andrey has nothing to lose, so I think he will show everything he can. And this is the most important thing. His tennis is good enough to beat players of Sinner’s caliber. And he has a chance, the main thing is that he is psychologically calm and fights for every ball, so that there are no failures due to his emotionality,” says Pivovarova.
Rublev defeated de Minaur in five sets and the match ended with scores of 6:4, 6:7 (5:7), 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 6:0. Andrey’s match with Sinner, who previously knocked out Russian Karen Khachanov, will take place on Tuesday, January 23 and will start before 12:30 Moscow time.
