Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open held in Melbourne.
In the fourth round match, the Russian faced Australian Alex de Minaur. The match, which lasted 4 hours and 14 minutes, ended with Rublev’s superiority with scores of 6:4, 6:7 (5:7), 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 6:0.
In the quarterfinals, Rublev will play Jannik Sinner from Italy, who had previously knocked out another Russian tennis player, Karen Khachanov, in the fourth round.
In the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, 26-year-old Rublev is in fifth place and 22-year-old Sinner is in fourth place.
Russian tennis players continue to participate in international tournaments as neutral athletes. The only tournament they missed was Wimbledon in 2022. Sanctions were imposed because the organizers did not allow Russian tennis players to participate in the tournament.
