Ukrainian Kostyuk beat Russian Timofeeva in the fourth round of the Australian Open

Russian tennis player Maria Timofeeva could not beat Ukrainian representative Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round match of the Australian Open.

The meeting, which lasted just over an hour, ended with scores of 6:2 and 6:1. At the beginning of the first set, the match was interrupted for 50 minutes due to rain.

In the next round, Kostyuk will play against American Cori Gauff.

For the first time in her career, Timofeeva played in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. Kostyuk reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open for the first time.

Polish representative Iga Swiatek continues to lead the updated rankings of the Women’s Tennis Association WTA. While Belarus representative Arina Sabalenko took the second place, Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan closed the top three. The best Russian woman is Daria Kasatkina (13th place).

Today, 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva will play in the women’s part of the competition. The Russian representative will fight against Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic. The meeting will start at approximately 8.10 Moscow time.

Previously, 16-year-old Andreeva had reached the 1/8 final at the Australian Open. it’s called a miracle.
