Spartak Moscow’s new sports director, Tomas Amaral, in an interview with the club’s press service stated About the need to reduce the number of players in the first team.
According to him, there are too many players in the main squad right now.
“We need to reduce the number of players in the first team. You cannot rely on young players and at the same time talk without leaving room for those young people when there are 27 people in the squad. To do this, we need to vacate some positions. In my opinion, it is ideal to have 24-25 players in the squad,” he said.
The last place of work of the Portuguese specialist was Benfica Lisbon. Amaral was not working as a sports director before Spartak. He worked as an observer in the Portuguese club.
The red and whites, led by Guillermo Abascal, ranked fifth in the Russian Premier League (RPL) in the first half of the season, collecting 30 points in 18 weeks. Spartak is eight points ahead of leader Krasnodar and national champion Zenit St. It is six points behind St. Petersburg.
