Former Spartak coach took over Torpedo

Oleg Kononov, former coach of Spartak Moscow and Krasnodar, headed the capital’s Torpedo. This was reported by press service teams on the official Telegram channel.

The contract of the 57-year-old specialist is 2.5 years. At the head of the team, Kononov replaced Artem Gorlov, who was dismissed on January 16.

Torpedo plays in the First League, the second strongest league in Russia. The team is in eighth place with 27 points after 20 rounds. The difference between leader Dinamo and Makhachkala is ten points.

In January 2023, the 57-year-old specialist was fired from Arsenal Tula. He started working at the club in the summer of 2022. In April 2023, Kononov was appointed head coach of Ramensky Saturn, but left the team in August.

Kononov coached Spartak from autumn 2018 to autumn 2019, after his resignation Spartak fans voted him as the team’s worst coach in the 21st century in various polls. The specialist also worked in Krasnodar from 2013 to 1016, and in 2015, under his leadership, the Bulls took third place in the Russian Championship.

Spartak had previously been urged not to spend money on clowns.
