Former CSKA Moscow goalkeeper coach Vyacheslav Chanov reports that he believes Ilya Pomazun is ready to replace Igor Akinfeev as the club’s goalkeeper “RB Sports”.
“Will Pomazun be able to replace Akinfeev if he retires? Yes. I’m sure of that. If he was at CSKA, he would always sit on the bench. And here one person was constantly called up and played in the Russian national team,” Chanov said.
Pomazun is a CSKA graduate and currently plays for Ural Yekaterinburg on loan.
With CSKA, Akinfeev became the Russian champion six times, won the national cup seven times and won the UEFA Cup in the 2004/05 season. As a member of the Russian national team, he won a bronze medal at the 2008 European Championships held in Austria and Switzerland. In 2018, Akinfeev reached the 1/4 finals of the home world championship with the Russian national team.
CSKA is in eighth place in the Russian Championship rankings with 28 points.
