Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova shared her thoughts on the performance of Eteri Tutberidze’s daughter Diana Davis and her partner Gleb Smolkin at the European Championships, noting that the athletes skated well and made a lot of effort. His words lead the way “Soviet sport”.
“But we must remember and keep in mind that there were no Russians at this European Championship, then the result would have been different. And they competed honorably. The guys skate technically and at high speed. But I can say that I did not like their programs at all. “I am not a fan of this program at all,” said Tarasova.
Davis and Smolkin placed eighth in the dance duet competition. He received 189.46 points for both dances. Italian figure skaters Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri won the tournament with a total of 214.38 points, while British Laila Fear and Lewis Gibson (210.82 points) took second place. Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius from Lithuania, the host of the competition, ranked in the top three with 203.37 points.
After the Beijing Olympics, Davis and Smolkin lived and trained in the United States. The couple changed their citizenship in the summer of 2023. Now athletes represent the Georgian national team. They won the Ice Dance International tournament held in Lake Placid, USA, at the beginning of August.
