Former Spartak Moscow striker Valery Masalitin said in an interview with socialbites.ca that the transfer of midfielder Ilzat Akhmetov to Zenit was financially beneficial for the football player.

According to him, there is a possibility that the 26-year-old player will sit on the bench.

“Akhmetov is not a main squad player, he is a rotation player. If Krasnodar had any problem areas on the field, then it occupied them. Somewhere he is successful, somewhere not so good. It is not possible to say that it is comparable to Cordoba or Spertsyan. To be honest, his transfer to Zenit is surprising. It is clear that he won in terms of money, but in terms of play… Many Russian football players ended up on the bench when they arrived at Zenit. The same Bakaev, Sutormin, Erokhin in his time. Akhmetov has a good chance, but only time will tell whether he will fit into Sergei Semak’s system of play,” said Masalitin.

On January 9, Akhmetov moved from Krasnodar to Zenit. The 26-year-old midfielder’s contract runs until the end of the 2025/26 season and has the option to extend for another year.

Valery Masalitin called earlier risky Arthur’s transfer to Zenit.
