Russian grandmaster Sergey Karyakin described how he was involved in a traffic accident during a recent humanitarian trip to the special military operation (SVO) region. His words guide the way RIA News.

“I was with my friends, the car overturned several times, but thank God everyone survived. I actually broke a few ribs, they still hurt a little but overall it’s okay. Two men escaped without any scratches and one injured his back,” Karjakin said.

The incident occurred in the Kherson region in November.

By the decision of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Ethics and Disciplinary Commission on March 21, 2022, Karjakin received a six-month suspension for the open letter he wrote to Vladimir Putin. It was learned that the disqualification period expired in September.

FIDE has decided to deprive Russian and Belarusian chess players of the right to compete in tournaments under the flag and anthem of their respective countries in 2022. Chess players will be able to participate in competitions under the flags of the Russian Chess Federation/Belarusian Chess Federation (BSF) or FIDE.

The International Chess Federation Council (FIDE) had previously allowed the FCR to move from the European Chess Union to the Asian Chess Federation.
