Mostovoy is a two-time USSR champion (1987, 1989) as part of Moscow Spartak, he also played for the Portuguese Benfica, French Strasbourg and Caen, Spanish Celta and Alaves. He won the Spanish and Portuguese Cups with Celta and Benfica respectively.
As part of the Russian national team, Mostovoy played 50 matches, in which he scored ten goals and made nine assists.
In early June, the Russian Football Union announced that Mostovoy had submitted documents to obtain a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) coaching license at the RFU academy.
