The goal scored by Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin did not help his team beat the Nashville Predators in a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match.

The meeting took place at the Capital One Arena in Washington and ended with the victory of the guest team with a score of 3:2 after a penalty shootout.

The winners’ goals were scored by Luke Evangelista, Roman Josi and Gustav Nyqvist. In addition to Ovechkin, Bek Malensteen also scored for the Capitals.

Ovechkin could have scored twice in the third period, but the referees canceled out the Washington captain’s goal. The Russian player also failed to complete his attempt in the clash.

Ovechkin played in 34 games in the NHL this season and scored 7 goals and 14 assists.

The 38-year-old player scored a total of 829 goals during his time in the NHL. The difference between Ovechkin, who holds the league record for most goals in NHL history, and Wayne Gretzky is 65 goals.
