Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny said that if Russians are accepted to the tournament, local athletes will not participate in the Olympic Games. His words are quoted “BBC”.

“We say this is our position: if athletes who support Russia and its regime are allowed to participate in competitions, we will not participate in competitions.

However, we still understand that an Olympic boycott would, in principle, be a blow to our athletes. “And it is possible that we will be offered to enter the next Olympic Games in a neutral status,” Bedny said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had previously announced six quotas for Russians to compete in the Olympic Games. The organization said Russian athletes will be required to sign updated terms of participation, which include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”. Russian athletes who rank well in their own disciplines will be allowed to compete.

The games in Paris will begin at the end of July 2024.
