Former world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny recalled an emotional moment during his match against Spaniard Nicolas Almagro at a tournament in Miami in 2008. His words are quoted Tennis Majors.
“A lot of people don’t know that I was very nervous from the very beginning. I don’t know why, but that day I felt like I was crazy.
I was a little overzealous, hitting my head with my racket, but then I calmed down and won seven points in a row. When I saw the blood, I started to act calmer. This moment changed the course of the match, my mentality changed at that moment,” Youzhny said.
Youzhny is the winner of 19 Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) tournaments and a two-time Davis Cup winner (2002, 2006) as a member of the Russian national team.
