Former football player of CSKA Moscow and the USSR national team Vladimir Ponomarev recalled in an interview “Match TV”How national team players drink alcohol from plates.
“We had a friendly match in Belgium. After the match, dinner in the restaurant. Nikolai Petrovich Morozov (coach of the USSR national team) knew that everyone was drinking, so he made sure that there was not a single bottle on the table.
Valerka Voronin is there: “Sexton, would you like some vodka?” I answer: “I will.” Valerka: “Now they will bring it to you on a plate.” Many men agreed. He goes to the kitchen and after a while the waiters bring plates of vodka. They ate, or rather drank, with a spoon, and then ate with bread. Everyone got very drunk. Petrovich still didn’t understand what the problem was,” the veteran said.
Ponomarev played for the USSR national team in the 1960s, reaching the semi-finals of the 1966 World Cup with the team.
