State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev, in a comment to socialbites.ca, talked about the conditions for obtaining neutral status and participation in competitions proposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Russian athletes. The politician is not sure whether it makes sense to send athletes to the Olympic Games in Paris, given the degree of restrictions imposed by the IOC.

“Restrictions that the IOC organizers will impose during the Olympic tournament. If they find indirect or direct evidence of support for a special military operation there. Or they said that athletes would be affected if they performed in clubs that were once affiliated with state institutions… So what is this? Complete nonsense! So there is no hope of objectivity. There is no certainty that they will not be removed before or during the tournament. And the plus, of course, is the psychological pressure that builds throughout the entire Olympics. Is this necessary? Uncertain. This issue needs to be approached very carefully,” Svishchev emphasized.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said that athletes from Russia and Belarus can go to Paris 2024 with neutral status if they obtain an Olympic license on the basis of sports. At the same time, athletes who qualify for the Games must meet a number of strict conditions and will compete without national symbols.

Previously Tatyana Navka spoke in favor of Russia’s performance at the Olympic Games remains neutral.
