Coach Natalya Linichuk, an Olympic champion in ice dancing, said she always wanted to return to Russia, despite moving to the United States in the early 1990s. RT.

Linichuk stated that family responsibilities prevented him from returning.

“I wanted to stay with them longer, feel like a mother and grandmother and help as much as possible,” Linichuk said.

Linichuk returned to Russia in January 2023.

Linichuk became Olympic champion in 1980 together with Gennady Karponosov. The couple also has two victories at the World and European Championships. After completing their sports careers, our athletes worked as coaches in the USA. Under their leadership, Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov became Olympic champions.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended athletes from both countries from competitions. The last major tournament for the Russians was the Olympic Games in Beijing in February 2022.
