Washington Capitals’ Russian forward and captain Alexander Ovechkin failed to score against the New York Islanders and updated his personal record.

The match was played at the Capital One Arena in Washington and ended with the home team winning 3:2 in extra time (overtime). The winners’ goals were scored by Hendrix Lapierre, Joel Edmundson and Dylan Strome. Hudson Fashing and Anders Lee scored the goals for the visiting team.

Ovechkin had an assist and updated his personal record by extending his streak without scoring a goal to 14 consecutive games.

This season, the 38-year-old Ovechkin played in 29 games on the ice and scored only 18 points (5 goals and 13 assists).

In total, the player scored 827 goals during his time in the NHL. The difference between Ovechkin, who holds the league record for most goals in NHL history, and Wayne Gretzky is 67 goals.

The Capitals earned their second straight win (36 points) and moved into eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Next game, Washington will play away against the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 22.
