President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov spoke about the countries that do not support the organization’s transition to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). His words are quoted TASS.
“I did not tell you that they do not want to see us, there are a certain number of countries that want to see us, but there are also countries where it is difficult or impossible to reach an agreement. Who is against seeing us in Asia? 26 countries supporting sanctions against the Russian Federation. This does not mean that 26 associations are against it; “There is an example of the Asian Games where our athletes never participated,” he said.
At a meeting of the RFU Executive Committee on 20 December, all members of the organization considered that a move to Asia without a guarantee from the International Football Federation (FIFA) did not make sense. Dyukov had previously stated that the possibility of moving to Asia remained.
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
Previously at RFU reported About the agreement to hold a match with a national team from Europe.
