Edwards defeats Covington and defends UFC title

British fighter Leon Edwards defeated US representative Colby Covington at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 296. This victory allowed Edwards to defend the promotion’s heavyweight title.

The fight, which left its mark on the tournament held in Las Vegas, USA, lasted for five rounds determined by the rules and ended with Edwards winning by unanimous decision.

The British athlete won the championship title by knocking out American fighter Kamaru Usman in the UFC 278 tournament in August 2022. A rematch between the athletes was held at UFC 286 in March, and Edwards won again. Thus, the title defense in the fight with Covington became the second for the Briton.

He has a total of 22 wins and three defeats throughout his entire career in mixed martial arts. Two of his fights were inconclusive.

Covington has had 21 MMA fights, four of which ended in defeat. He beat Jorge Masvidal before losing to Edwards.
