The International Hockey Federation (IIHF) may deprive the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF) of membership due to the Russian side ignoring sanctions regarding goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov and CSKA. This was reported by “Match TV” I’m quoting a source who knows the situation.

“What will happen if the Russian side continues to ignore the IIHF decision? The international federation can then file a lawsuit against the IIHF Disciplinary Committee, complaining that its decision has not been implemented. According to the law, there are six possible penalties, starting with a warning and ending with the exclusion of the federation from the international family,” the source said.

The sanctions were imposed due to Fedotov’s violation of a contract agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

On 16 December, the Independent Disciplinary Council rejected the appeals of Fedotov and CSKA. The IIHF ruled that Fedotov violated his contractual obligations with Philadelphia. Fedotov signed a contract with the Flyers in 2022, then went to serve in the army, where he spent a year. He then signed a contract with CSKA before the 2023/24 season.

On August 14, the IIHF punished CSKA with a season-long international transfer ban. The team’s goaltender, Fedotov, has been banned from playing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) until December 31, 2023. These sanctions are still in effect.

At the same time, on September 1, Fedotov appeared on the ice in the opening match of the KHL season against Ak Bars. CSKA lost with a score of 2:5 and the goalkeeper played the entire game. The goalkeeper continues to participate in the KHL regular championship.
