Former Spartak Moscow football player Renat Sabitov said in an interview: “Championship” about coach Valery Karpin’s demands for professionalism and discipline from the players.
“Then, after 23:00, we crossed paths with Georgich in a restaurant. This was my most expensive meal. There was a quiet scene at that time. When I saw Karpin in a restaurant, I forgot to breathe. My friend gets up quietly and closes the table so we don’t waste time on this. We go out and a friend says: “Then you will tell me how much.”
The next day Karpin comes: “Well, didn’t you sleep enough? “No problem, you can have it by lunch.” But actually we came for coffee. I never drank alcohol until I was 26. The most I can take is a sip on New Year’s Eve, that’s all,” said the former football player.
Sabitov played for Spartak from 2007 to 2010. During this time, he played 64 matches and made four assists. As a member of the red-white team, he became Russian vice-champion twice (2007, 2009).
Karpin was the manager of Spartak from 2009 to 2012 and from 2012 to 2014. He led the capital club to RPL silver medals twice. As a football player, Karpin played for Spartak from 1990 to 1991 and from 1992 to 1994. While playing for the club, he became the Russian champion three times and won the national cup.
