Russian national team and Zenit St. Former St. Petersburg player Andrei Arshavin briefly talked about Russian forward and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin’s goalless streak in the National Hockey League (NHL), stating that it does not matter to him. “You should just play hockey. It doesn’t matter whether you score or not anymore. Ovechkin is already a great player,” Arshavin said.

On the night of December 11, Washington defeated the Chicago Blackhawks. Ovechkin had an assist but did not score. His goalless streak extended to ten games, repeating his anti-record in the NHL.

Ovechkin’s record for consecutive games without scoring a goal in a regular season was broken in February – March 2017 (ten games). A series of nine goalless matches was recorded in the 2008/2009 and 2010/2011 seasons.

In this season of the regular season of the National Hockey League, Ovechkin appeared on the ice in 25 games and scored only 16 points – five goals and 11 assists. At the same time, in the match played against Dallas Stars on the night of December 8, the captain of the capital scored his 1500th point with an assist in the NHL. He became the first hockey player from Russia to achieve this feat.
